Camping & Hammocks

Comfort, safe hanging, single vs. double, and how small a packable hammock really gets.

Are camping hammocks comfortable to sleep in?

Many people sleep comfortably in a hammock by lying slightly diagonally, which flattens the lay and takes pressure off the back. Parachute-nylon hammocks distribute weight evenly and breathe well; in cooler weather add an underquilt or sleeping pad, since your back loses heat to the air below.

How do I hang a hammock safely?

Use tree-friendly straps around two solid trees about 12–15 feet apart, set the straps roughly head-height with a gentle 30-degree sag in the hammock, and ease in slowly to test before committing. Our hammocks include straps and carabiners so you can set up in minutes without harming the trees.

What's the difference between a single and a double hammock?

A single hammock is lighter and packs smaller for solo trips, while a double is wider and roomier — better for sharing, lounging, or just more space to spread out. A double also makes a very comfortable solo hammock if you don't mind a little extra weight.

Can I use a hammock without trees?

Yes — you can hang one from a hammock stand, sturdy posts, or a vehicle and a tree, as long as the anchors are solid and rated for the load. The included straps work on any stable anchor about the right distance apart.

How small does a packable hammock fold down?

A parachute-nylon hammock packs into its own attached stuff sack roughly the size of a grapefruit — light enough to live in a daypack so it's always there for the quiet part of the afternoon.
